Family Adventures in Kalkan, Turkey…

…A Parent-Approved Guide!

Kalkan, tucked along Turkey’s stunning Turquoise Coast, is a perfect mix of adventure, history, and downtime. With cobbled streets, rooftop restaurants, and sparkling beaches, this charming town is a fantastic family-friendly destination. Here’s our guide to make your trip unforgettable, including where to stay, eat, and explore with kids in tow…

Exploring Kalkan with Kids

Boat Day with the Family

One of our favourite experiences was hiring a boat for the day to explore Kalkan’s bays. Snorkelling, swimming, and even a cheeky mud mask stop kept the kids entertained for hours — and seeing Kalkan from the water was magical. Big tick from our little adventurers!

Kas Old Town

Just a short drive away, Kas makes a perfect day trip. Wandering the atmospheric streets, stopping for a drink at Kas Beach Bar, and watching the kids jump off the diving platform into crystal-clear water made for a joyful afternoon.

Kalkan Old Town

Back in Kalkan itself, the charming alleys, rooftop views, and friendly locals make it a breeze to explore with children. We loved popping into little shops, grabbing ice creams, and soaking up the relaxed vibe.

Where to Stay: Family-Friendly Hotels

We stayed at Payava Hotel by True Blue, and it was perfect for our family of four. The rooms were spacious, the staff welcoming, and the pool kept our kids entertained for hours. Breakfasts were a hit, with plenty of choices to suit everyone.

Another great option is True Blue Hotel Kalkan — family-friendly rooms, a relaxing pool, and a lovely setting make it a peaceful base for exploring the area. Both hotels made it easy to balance adventure with downtime.

Dining in Kalkan: Kid-Friendly Spots

Kalkan’s food scene is surprisingly family-friendly. Some favourites from our trip:

  • Belgin’s Kitchen Restaurant – set in a historic olive oil workshop, offering traditional Turkish dishes in a fun, relaxed setting.

  • Doy Doy Restaurant – overlooking the harbour, perfect for an evening meal with seafood, steaks, and a view.

  • Lal Restaurant – Old Town location, Mediterranean menu, stunning sea views, ideal for a special family meal.

  • La Sponda Resto & Cafe – casual spot for coffee, breakfast, or light bites.

  • Coriander Restaurant – a family-run gem just outside town; garlic prawns and sizzling lamb were firm favourites.

Beach Adventures and Beyond

  • Kaputaş Beach – a hidden gem with turquoise waters, perfect for a full day of swimming and relaxing.

  • Patara Beach – Turkey’s longest beach, set against ancient Lycian ruins. Pack a picnic and enjoy a full day by the sea.

History & Outdoor Adventures

Kalkan isn’t just beaches! For history lovers, nearby Lycian ruins, ancient tombs, and the scenic amphitheater in Kas offer fascinating explorations. For adventure families, the Lycian Way hiking trails, kayaking, and some of Turkey’s best diving spots are all within reach.

Packing Tips for Families Visiting Kalkan

A few essentials to make your trip smoother:

  • Comfy shoes – cobbled streets and walking adventures call for trainers or sandals that can handle a stroll.

  • Snorkelling gear – the water is stunning and perfect for little explorers.

  • Sunscreen & hats – the Mediterranean sun is strong, even in autumn.

  • Waterproof bag – ideal for beach or boat days.

  • Travel-friendly beds – if your kids need a familiar sleep setup, bring something portable to make bedtime easier wherever you stay.
