Saas Fee: A Family Ski Escape That’s Fun for All Levels

If you’re thinking about a family ski trip that feels special without being overwhelming, Saas Fee in Switzerland absolutely deserves a spot on your ski shortlist. We spent two nights here at the start of January with our kids (aged 7 & 9, both confident on skis), and it blew our expectations out of the snow park!

Why Families Love Saas Fee

Car-free charm:
Saas Fee is completely car-free — you park at the edge of town and hop on one of the electric buses or mini-shuttle services that whisk you and your ski kit around. It makes wandering the village with kids so calm and safe, and means noise and traffic stress are basically non-existent. Just plan ahead for the short bus/mini shuttle to your accommodation when you arrive.

Super family-friendly skiing:
The slopes are a brilliant mix for every ability. There’s a lovely beginner area near the bottom of the lifts, perfect for first-timers or brushing up basics, and once you’re ready the runs higher on the mountain are wide, well groomed and fun. The kids loved the snow park, the speed trap, and the ski cross course — great for a bit of friendly racing and playful competition.

Friendly transport around town:
Saas Fee’s frequent buses connect hotels to the main lift stations — especially helpful if you’re staying away from the slopes but want easy access. Safe, reliable and a fun little “local life” moment for the kids to enjoy.

Where We Stayed: Revier Saas Fee

Our base for the break was Revier Saas Fee, and it was such a solid pick for families.

  • Spacious and comfy family room — perfect for four.

  • Great food — the ribs were next-level delicious!

  • Friendly staff and ski-friendly logistics (ski room, bus access right outside).

  • Loads of storage space for skis, boots and our gear, which always feels like a win with kids.

We booked through Booking.com and paid about £600 for bed and breakfast for the two nights — but the hotel also has its own price match policy, so next time we’ll book directly.

Having this comfy, welcoming base made all the difference — especially coming in after a snowy day on the mountain and just wanting space to chill.

Quick Costs & Practical Tips

Here’s a rough guide to what you can expect — always good to budget before you go:

Ski Passes

1-day adult pass ~ CHF 83 (~€90)

1-day child pass ~ CHF 42 (~€45)

Multi-day passes offer better per-day value.

Saas Fee is covered by the Magic Pass if you have one — a great option if you ski lots of resorts.

Equipment Rental

Approx €90-€150 for adult skis for 3 days

Children’s gear around €40-€70 for 3 days

If you book online in advance you can often get better deals to save money.

Food & Drink

Mountain restaurants are plentiful, and most have hearty lunch options with great views — and many do generous portions of chips that are more than enough for two to share as a snack-y lunch up the mountain! (Our go-to after a long morning on skis.)

Hot Chocolates & Chips!

What Really Stood Out

The vibe: With no cars and lots of families around, it feels safe, friendly and laid-back.

Intermediate terrain that’s still fun: We LOVED the ski cross course, snow park and speed trap, to keep the kids entertained. The resort is great for explorers and those who want variety without intimidation.

Activities for non-ski days: There’s a pool & spa plus shops to mooch around — perfect for resting legs or keeping non-skiing partners happy.

Is Saas Fee Worth It for Families?

Absolutely.
Whether you’re beginners, intermediate cruisers, or somewhere in between, Saas Fee delivers fun, scenic skiing and a village that’s comfortable, charming, and genuinely family-friendly.

If you’re planning a quick ski break that feels like a real adventure, this should be on your list.
